The Independent College and Universities of Arizona (ICUA) is the association representing regionally accredited, independent (non-public) colleges and universities within the state of Arizona. Among the ICUA’s purposes are the following:
- Enhance awareness of the value of and the contribution made by independent colleges and universities within the state;
- Promote educational diversity, ensure educational excellence, and identify and meet unmet higher education needs of Arizona; and
- Serve as a liaison with the public universities of Arizona.
Originally established in 1981, the Independent Colleges and Universities of Arizona reorganized in 1998 to support, strengthen, and ensure the effectiveness of Arizona’s regionally accredited, independent institutions of higher education. Many ICUA schools are accredited by—
The Higher Learning Commission, a Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, 312-263-0456, www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org. The NCA also provides regional accreditation for the public universities within Arizona.
